Prescriptions

Repeat Prescriptions

Please allow three working days for your prescription to be processed and signed ready for collection. We do not accept requests for prescriptions over the phone for safety reasons.

Ways to obtain a repeat prescription:

  1. EMIS Patient Access - if you have already signed up you can order repeat prescriptions online via the link at the top of the page (we have currently suspended new registrations as it requires ID to be brought into the surgery).
  2. Using the NHS App - you need to sign up for this, but you can self-verify.
  3. Using the 'contact your healthcare team' link at the top of the home page.
  4. Email us at fgccg.westlandsmc@nhs.net - be sure to include your full name, date of birth, address and details of the medications that you need.
  5. Post you prescription request to us and if you let us have a stamped addressed envelope we will post the prescription back to you.
  6. Alternatively, several of the local pharmacies offer a collection service, whereby they will collect your prescription from us and dispense your medication ready for you to collect from the pharmacy.

Please allow three full working days for prescriptions to be processed and remember to take weekends and bank holidays into account.

Electronic Prescribing Service

We strongly recommend using the electronic prescribing service.

This means that for most patients we can send your prescription to your chosen chemist directly so you do not need to come down to the surgery.

To get your prescription sent to your chosen pharmacy you will have to ask reception to sign up or e-mail the Practice  fgccg.westlandsmc@nhs.net with details of your nominated Pharmacy.

'Rescue medications' will ONLY be provided to patients with COPD, and only based on suitability. More information can be found here.

Prescription Fees

Help with NHS costs

In England, around 90% of prescription items are dispensed free. This includes exemptions from charging for those on low incomes, such as:

  • those on specific benefits or through the NHS Low Income Scheme
  • those who are age exempt
  • those with certain medical conditions
  • More information is available at NHS Choices

NHS Charges

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

  • Prescription (per item): £9.15
  • 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £105.90
  • 3-month PPC: £29.65

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.

  • Telephone advice and order line 0845 850 0030
  • General Public - Buy or Renew a PPC On-line

There is further information about prescription exemptions and fees on the NHS website.
