“NHS England require that the net earnings of doctors engaged in the practice is publicised by 31 March 2016 at the latest. However, it should be noted that the prescribed method of calculating earnings is potentially misleading because it takes no account of how much time doctors spend working in the practice and should not be used for any judgement about GP earnings, nor to make any comparisons with other practices.”
Based on the number of 4 hour sessions worked by our GPs, this equates to roughly £37.60 per hour, before tax, national insurance and employee pension contributions.
A fully qualified GP has undergone a minimum of 5 years additional training, and accrued an average £70,000 of debt at university. For comparison, the BBC published information on starting salaries in medicine and other careers.
